El templo original se fundó en el siglo XII por orden de Alfonso I, "El Batallador" como muestra de agradecimiento a los franceses que le ayudaron en la Batalla de Cutanda (1120) contra los Almorávides y que se quedaron definitivamente en Calatayud, si bien la iglesia actual se construyó 2 siglos más tarde.
English: High altar of the gotic church of San Pedro de los Francos, located in Calatayud, Aragon, Spain. The original temple was founded in the 12th century by order of Alfonso I, "The Battler" to offer the french people who helped him in the Battle of Cutanda (1120) against the Almoravids and stayed definitely in Calatayud a place to pray, but the current church was built 2 centuries later.

Oryginalny kościół ufundował w XII wieku Alfons I Waleczny jako wyraz wdzięczności dla Francuzów, którzy pomogli mu w bitwie o Cutandę (batalla de Cutanda, 1120) przeciwko Almorawidom. Chciał w ten sposób ofiarować miejsce do modlitw tym spośród nich, którzy osiedlili się w Calatayud. Obecna świątynia została zbudowana dwa wieki później.
