Description The Huntsville Female College was built by antebellum architect George Steele in the early 1850's on the north side of Randolph Street. It was chartered in 1851 and operated for almost half a century under the guidance of of the Methodist Church. It was used as a hospital in the Civil War and destroyed by fire in 1895.
