g the cards follows the debtor atregular intervals of fifteen days, A check mark in theblank space below the number at the top of the cardshows when the second letter is to be written. The cardis kept in a file numbered with the days of the month, and every morning the office-boy picks out the cards ofthe day and places them on the collection mans desk.As each collection letter goes forward a condensed state-ment of its contents is noted in the lines marked inaction and the debtors replies are boiled down inthe same way. Before the new system was adopted, debtors wereangered at receiving duns after having paid. To avoidthis error, a summary of the ledger account was placedon the card. The bookkeeper in making out the cardshows in the top line the date and the balance due. When remittances are received, the cashier enters themon the credit column before turning money over to thebookkeeper. In this way collection efforts are instantlystopped on receipt of remittance. 110 LISTS AND RECORDS
