1942: bequeathed to Delaware Art Museum by Joseph Bancroft
Notes
English: In 1905, Schoonover was commissioned to make a couple of illustrations to accompany “The Fight at Buckskin.” The story features a bad-tempered, crusty cowboy called Hopalong Cassidy. The magazine sent Schoonover west to sketch and photograph cowboy life to prepare for the illustrations. This painting was based on a photo Schoonover colored and sent to the editor for approval. Despite the photographic source, Schoonover hired a model to pose in some of the Western gear he had acquired while out west.
