English: Cornelis Cornelisz. van Haarlem, Haarlem 1562-1638. Hercules and Achelous, signed and dated 'AO 90 CCornely H fe'oil on canvas75 5/8 x 96 in. 192 x 244 cm. Provenance (probably) Jacob Rauwert collection, Amsterdam, by descent to his son Claes; sale, Amsterdam, 28 August 1612 as '1 doeck Hercules' (to Hendrick van Os). (Probably) inventory of the estate of Herman Becker, Amsterdam, 19 October 1678, fol. 285v: 'In de sal naest het voorhuijs: Een hercules van Mr. Corn[elis] van Haarlem'. Potschien, Berlin, circa 1925, and by descent. Confiscated by the East German Government in December 1985. Transferred to the Bode Museum, 1986. Gemäldegalerie, Berlin, 1998-2006. Bode-Museum, Berlin, 2006-2008. Restituted to the present owner, 2008.
