Summary

Description "Heiss patent amalgamator for saving fine gold from sand, gravel and pulp," one of a set of six photos on p. 101 of brochure Seattle and the Orient (1900), collectively captioned as "The establishment of Mitchell, Lewis & Staver Co." Mitchell, Lewis & Staver (founded 1882) still exists as of 2007, although they are now based in Wilsonville, Oregon rather than Portland, where they were based in 1900 according to Polk's Seattle City Directory 1899 (Polk's Seattle Directory Co., 1899), p. 690.

p. 101 of Seattle and the Orient (more properly, Seattle …and the… Orient), a 1900 "souvenir" pamphlet edited and compiled by Alfred D. Bowen and published by The Times Printing Company (that is, the Seattle Times).

Scanned at 300 dpi; images cleaned up using Picture Publisher's "remove pattern" feature.
