English: Every year on 12 March the Faroese people celabrate the return of their national bird the oyster catcher, in Faroese called Tjaldur, the day is called Grækarismessa. In some villages they gather to celabrate it with speeches and song. This was in Vágur in Suðuroy, the day before Grækarismessa, on a square in town called Minnisvarðin. The event always starts with a procession by the local scouts (skótarnir). There is a monument in memory of people lost at sea. Johan Dalsgaard held a speech and the choir Ljómur sang a few songs.
