Centrum - Botermarkt Ghent City Hall is a complex of contiguous building blocks erected at different times, in the most diverse styles. The oldest building in the whole complex is the old Keure house dating from 1482. At the beginning of the 16th century, architects Keldermans and De Waghemaeker were called upon to draw up plans for a new house at La Keure; of these plans, only about a quarter was built, namely the current flamboyant Gothic building body occupying the north face of the quadrilateral and the corner of Hoogpoort and Botermarkt. In 1580, this building was extended eastward on the Hoogpoort, in the form of a renaissance style wing, called Bollaertskamer. At the end of the 16th century, it was the turn of the parish sheriffs to build a sumptuous edifice: the Renaissance wing occupying the east face of the block, on the Botermarkt, and part of the south face.
