English: A freshly-caught glacier lanternfish (Benthosema glaciale), imaged on a measuring board for scale. The specimen has lost its skin and scales, but most of the photophores are visible on the lower half of the animal as bright, shiny points, reflecting the camera flash. The fin rays are also damaged. This is about as nice as any trawled specimens of this specimen ever are.
