Summary

Description
English: Theoretical torque curve of a clock mainspring. From Hooke's Law the torque exerted by the spring decreases linearly to zero as it unwinds. At the left side where the spring approaches full wind, all the slack is gone from between the turns and they are pressed tight together, so the torque increases.
