Description

Rickenbacker Frying Pan lap steel guitar. One-piece maple prototype (1931), developed by George Beauchamp (electromagnetic “horseshoe” pickup), Paul Barth (body and neck design) and Harry Watson. When it went into production in 1932 (with one-piece aluminium cast body, neck and headstock), the Frying Pan was the world’s 1st electric guitar product. In this photo the wood prototype is shown on display at the Born to Rock exhibition at Harrods in 2007.

The "Frying pan (guitar)" in 1931/1932 was the first electric lap steel guitar ever produced, and one of the earliest electric guitar, along with the Stromberg Electro in 1928.[1]
