DescriptionFleet, cones and rain on the M3 - geograph.org.uk - 1778875.jpg
English: Fleet: cones and rain on the M3 Looking westbound (more southwest in the grand scheme of things) along the M3 from the elevated walkway linking the two sides of the Fleet services.
When I drove to London (towards the camera) late on Saturday evening, the hard shoulder was not usable but the right-hand lane was diverted to the 'wrong' side to maintain three lanes, while oncoming traffic had a choice of three lanes by way of the hard shoulder being available.
Today, though, it seems that the hard shoulders of both carriageways are being used as the third lane I was stood here for a couple of minutes and I saw no traffic using the normally wrong side.
The yellow contraption in the distance is a speed camera, taking account of average speed through the roadworks the limit is temporarily 50mph and the cameras are checking those rejoining the motorway from the services.
