Español: El lienzo representa el momento en que la mártir cristiana Santa Engracia († 303), que es la patrona de Zaragoza, fue azotada antes de ser ejecutada, ya que dicha mártir murió durante la persecución contra los cristianos decretada por el emperador Diocleciano, que fue la más sangrienta de todas las ordenadas por las autoridades romanas.
