Here, community elders in Ba, Fiji, welcome a delivery of supplies by Red Cross staff in the aftermath of devastating floods in January 2012. AusAID disbursed emergency funds to Australian Red Cross to work with their local counterparts to respond to the disaster, which affected more than 319,000 people in low-lying areas of the country’s western provinces. The emergency funding was part of Australia’s humanitarian response to the disaster, enabling the Red Cross to assess damage and to distribute essential water, medicine, clothing and shelter to affected families.
