DescriptionFather Drumgoole Statue - Mount Loretto - Staten Island - August 2015 - 10.JPG
English: Statue of Rev. John C. Drumgoole (1816-1888), a Roman Catholic priest who founded Mount Loretto, an historic orphanage and children's home in Staten Island, NY. It depicts Drumgoole caring for two young newsboys, who were the original focus of his charity work. This statue was created in 1894 and originally stood at another institution founded by Drumgoole in Manhattan. It was moved to Mount Loretto in 1920, and as of August 2015 still stands on the grounds of that historic institution, in front of the Old Church of St. Joachim and St. Anne (north of Hylan Boulevard between Sharrott and Page avenues).
Also shown in this photo are two bells that were retrieved from the church after a serious fire in 1973; the church has since been rebuilt.
