English: The Lowestoft trawler Excelsior during the 2005 Tall Ships Race to Fredrikstad. Her rig was damaged in bad weather - note the hook forming a jury-backstay - preventing her from hoisting her mainsail. It is not "known" whether the mizzen-staysail in the picture is normally used or a jury-rig to replace the main; however, it is likely a foresail used as a jury-rigred staysail because Excelsior's gaff rig would usually not allow such a stay sail (it would collide with the main sail; compare the length of the folded main ). |
