Summary

Description
English: Entrance into a field with a caution The field was sprayed with sulphuric acid.

According to the PSD (Pesticides Safety Directorate - an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, i.e. Defra), the application of sulphuric acid to growing potato plants is carried out because the killing off of potato shoots makes the mechanical lifting of tubers easier. The procedure also induces the plant to move more resources to the tubers, which results in a burst of growth prior to harvesting.
