English: Eddie August Schneider (1911-1940) shaking the hand of Richard Bronaugh Barnitz (1891-1960) in Los Angeles, California on August 21, 1930. The image was scanned at 600dpi, and compressed to 100 quality. The image was cropped to remove the white border.
Schneider being greeted by Colonel Richard Barnitz, manager of the Los Angeles municipal airport. Los Angeles; August 21, 1930. Breaking by over four hours the former junior east-to-west transcontinental flight record from New York to Los Angeles, Eddie Schneider, 18-year-old pilot, is shown here as he set his plane down for a new record of 29 hours, 41 minutes elapsed time. The former mark of 34 hours, 3 minutes, was held by the late Frank Goldsborough 19-year-old flyer who recently crashed to his death. After a rest, Schneider will attempt to lower the record in the opposite direction which Goldsborough also holds.
