Source (WP:NFCC#4) | Original publication: Rand Daily Mail on his marriage, but this may not have been the first.. This was a standard picture of the subject, which was also used in the UK with his obituary. Immediate source: My father's photo album. My father was the subject's nephew. |
Date of publication | see above |
Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Dyke White |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of his/her biographical article |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
This is the only known good portrait in existence of my great uncle. We do have several other photos of him, but none are portraits, and all suffer from the same ownership issues. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | The only use of this file anticipated is to illustrate the Wikipedia article. It makes a biography much more real if the reader can see what the subject looks like. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
The reason that I put up the Wikipdeia article about Dyke White is that he appears to have been almost forgotten, despite having been a very well-known cartoonist in his day. Although information about him exists in a few books about cartoonists, it is unlikely that any commercially important work will ever be published about him. |
Other information | The subject of the photograph has been deceased since: 1933 We do have a few other photos of the subject, but none are portraits, and all suffer from the same ownership (or non-ownership) issues. This portrait has been uploaded for the sole purpose of using to illustrate the article titled Dyke White. I have not yet worked out how to add it to the correct place at the top of the article. It is the only available suitable picture of the subject, and I feel it is important for any biography to include a portrait if at all possible. |
