Summary
DescriptionDhanushadham Govindapur Janakpur Dhanusha Nepal Rajesh Dhungana (9).jpg |
English: Dhanushadham is a place of pilgrimage of great religious significance in Gobindpur Ward No. 1, about 14 km northeast of Janakpur, the district headquarters of Dhanusha. According to the legend, the name Dhanusha is derived from the fact that in the Tretayuga, Ramchandra broke the bow of Sita Swayambara, one of the three parts of Shiva Dhanu, i.e. Pinakdhanu, fell here. It is said that the stage for breaking Shiva's bow was at this place. While one of them remained here, Shiva kept one of the other three broken pieces with him.
It is customary to worship a bow that looks like a broken relic. Only every Sunday morning of the month, devotees bathe here and visit Dhanushadham. Devotees throng here on Shivaratri, Ram Navami and Vivah Panchami. There are also idols of various other deities in the Dhanushadham complex. |
