English: Departing Rannoch Station The overnight sleeper service from London departs Rannoch with 35 lonely miles left to its final destination at Fort William. An attempt to discontinue this service in the 1990s was met with a storm of protest and questions were asked in Parliament. The media dubbed it the 'Deerstalker Express', characterising the typical passenger as a London businessman heading to the Highlands for a shooting weekend; whatever the reality, it is certainly a romantic and spectacular journey.
