Summary

Description
English: Fresh impact crater (unnamed) at right that is a dark spot and has abundant hollows within and around the crater. This is a reproduction of an image used in Figure 3 (a, inset) of Xiao, et al. (2013), Dark spots on Mercury: A distinctive low-reflectance material and its relation to hollows, JGR Planets.

Approximate color representation combining three images acquired by MESSENGER Wide Angle Camera (EW0249038185G, EW0249038187F, EW0249038190I) with I (996.2 nm), G (748.7 nm), and F (433.2 nm) filters. Combined in GIMP software as RGB (Red-Green-Blue). North is at top.
