English: Frieze by Charles John Allen on the Royal Insurance Building. The panels represent as follows:


Left: Represents the sciences; a figure holds a ship, representing Shipping; a girl measures with earth with a pair of dividers, representing Geometry; a woman holds up leaves in her right hand and a mounted animal skeleton (a rhino?) in her left, representing Biology; a girl holds a retort, representing Chemistry, and a woman holds a Wimshurst Machine, representing Electricity.
Centre: Mercury as the God of Commerce; he is flanked by four female figures representing the forces of nature, and is shown "extinguishing the flames of a burning world".


Right: Represents the arts; a woman plays the violin, representing Music; a boy holds the two masks representing Drama; a woman holds a book and a scroll, representing Literature; a boy holds a palette, representing Art, and a man holds a classical building, representing Architecture.
