English: Post card carried on the last flight of the Zeppelin Airship "Hindenburg" (DLZ129)
Source: The Cooper Collection of Zeppelin Postal History
This postcard was meant to be carried on a flight over Germany ("Deutschlandfahrt") on May 1, 1937, which was cancelled. The card was instead flown on the airship from Frankfurt-am-Main from which the "Hindenburg" took off for the United States on the evening of May 3 and was dropped several hours later with other similar cards and letters in a weighted pouch over Köln (Cologne), about 95km NW of Frankfurt. Three days later the airship was destroyed by fire when attempting to land as NAS Lakehurst, NJ.
