Deutsch: Das Wappen ist ein Hinweis auf die Anfänge der Stadt Mittenwalde im 13. Jahrhundert. Die Markgrafen von Brandenburg ließen an diesem Ort wegen der strategisch wichtigen Lage (das Nottefließ bildete die Grenze zum Markgrafentum der Lausitz) planmäßig eine Stadt errichten. Der Laubbaum symbolisiert als redendes Bild Mittenwalde. Rechtlich unterstand die Stadt unmittelbar den Markgrafen als Landesherren, deshalb kennzeichnet der rote Adler die Markgrafen von Brandenburg als Stadtherren. Mittenwalde gehörte zum kirchlichen Gebiet des Domstifts St. Petri in Brandenburg. Die beiden Schlüssel weisen auf das Domstift St. Petri in Brandenburg als Kirchenpatron hin.
