DescriptionCivic Centre, New Street - geograph.org.uk - 1107421.jpg
English: Civic Centre, New Street The Civic Centre was built as council offices for the former Stourport-on-Severn Urban District Council in the mid 1960's. Following local government reorganisation in 1974, Stourport-on-Severn, Bewdley & Kidderminster and outlying areas were joined together as the Wyre Forest District Council. As this is a much bigger authority than the former UDC, many council departments are spread over different buildings.
The present controlling group on the Council would like to replace the Civic Centre and the other dispersed offices with a brand new single site council office on land in Kidderminster. This is a highly controversial proposal opposed by other groups on the council, and by many residents, particularly in Stourport by people who fear for the future of the Civic Centre (part of which is available for non-council functions). Whether this scheme will go ahead and what will be the fate of the Civic Centre are at present unknown.
