Buckingham Fountain is a Chicago Landmark in Grant Park. It was dedicated in 1927. My wife Eileen is in the left foreground. Eileen and I went to Chicago from time to time when we lived in Peoria. Our trips usually had something to do with shopping at Marshall Field's.
The Standard Oil Building is under construction in the center of the photo. When completed in 1973 (the year after this photo), it would be 1,136 ft (346 m) high, and have 83 floors. It was built as the headquarters of Standard Oil Co. of Indiana. The name was changed to Amoco Center when the company changed its name. The building has since been sold, and is named Aon Center after its principal tenant, a financial company. John Hancock Center is in the background.
