Latin motto: Juvat Impigros Deus ("God helps the diligent / "God Helps the industrious"). The arms were granted by the College of Arms by letters patent dated October 12, 1868, to the Mayor, Aldermen, and Burgesses of the Borough of Huddersfield. The borough was abolished in 1974 under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972 when control was ceded to Kirklees Metropolitan Council and West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council. The design was based on the arms of the family of Ramsden of Byrom, owners of the manors of Almondbury and Huddersfield.
