English: Cambridge Locomotive Depot.
View southward from station platform; ex-Great Eastern principal Depot. Coded 31A by BR, it had an allocation of 94 locomotives (all steam) in 1954, providing passenger motive power for both the ex-GE and ex-Great Northern lines to London and to various lines radiating into East Anglia, also for local passenger and goods workings. By the date of this photograph the principal main line passenger trains had been dieselized and the steam allocation would have been considerably reduced - hence the comparative emptiness here. The Depot closed on 18/6/62 - and became a car park. The locomotive on the left is B1 4-6-0 No. 61236, that on the right is O1 2-8-0 No. 63725.
