Summary

Description
English: Skin is removed from Abdul Rhaman's upper thigh to be used for a skin graph on his neck during surgery where he was being treated for severe burns, March 1, 2010, Afghan national army hospital Kandahar, Afghanistan. Abdul suffered the burns when he was trying to cook breakfast. Prior to making breakfast, he had gotten oil from an oil tank and didn't realize it had gotten on his clothes. When he began to prepare breakfast over an open flame stove his clothes caught fire within seconds. Before being medically evacuated by U.S. and coalition forces to the ANA hospital in Kandahar, Abdul spent three nights being treated at a hospital in Shraba, Afghanistan, before doctors realized they didn't have the capabilities necessary to help him. Abdul underwent five hours of surgery performed by U.S. and ANA doctors with no complications. His complete recovery time is said to take up to 18 months.
