Summary

Description Architectural sculpture on former Commercial Bank, Bradford (now Natwest Bank) at 7 Hustlergate, Bradford, West Yorkshire. Designed by Andrews & Pepper in 1867 and opened in 1868. All exterior carving is by Mawer & Ingle of Leeds. The carving has a maritime theme throughout, in reference to 19th century British colonial sea trade, which was a source of profit for the bank. This theme includes friezes of waves, mythical or imaginary sea creatures, and mariners. Showing imaginary sea lion dog, foo dog or shi, as label stop.
