Summary

Description
English: Historical Marker for Blunt Poynt, October 2024. This spot is near where Humphrey Blount was killed by Nansemond tribe members in 1610 while trying to retrieve a longboat/canoe, as Sir Thomas Gates watched helplessly from afar. This event led to a fierce and unequal retaliation by Jamestown settlers on other local tribes not long after. Few current residents know the sinister origins of the name of their Blunt Point neighborhood, unless they go all the way to the back of the neighborhood and slow down enough to read the sign.
