Summary
| Description |
English: Blagdon Manor House, in the parish of Collaton St Mary (anciently in the parish of Paignton), Devon. The two large windows of the great hall are situated behind the overgrown Magnolia Grandiflora tree, to the left of the front door and screens passage. Date stone above inscribed: "1567". Today situated behind the "Blagdon Inn" public house (former stables), and almost surrounded by the "Devon Hills Holiday Park" (caravans/mobile homes), set-back at the end of a short driveway off the A385 Paignton to Totnes road. In the 16th century and prior the seat of the Kirkham family, whose chantry chapel ("Kirkham Chantry") with magnificent sculpted stone screen, survive in St John's Church, Paignton. Their heir was the Blount family, whose coat of arms dated 1708 survives above the fireplace in the great hall. In 2013 it was being used use as clubhouse and bar for the adjoining caravan site. |
