File:Black skimmer at breezy point.jpg
Original file (973 × 1,024 pixels, file size: 388 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)
Black skimmer taken at the Breezy Point wildlife preserve. I have been attempting to photograph (clearly) them doing their namesake "skimming." I have seen them flying close to the surface of the water with their lower beak in the water presumably attempting to scoop up fish, like a pelican might. When skimming the skimmer gives the appearance of a speed boat by throwing up a small but noticeable wake.
