The image serves as the primary means of visual identification of the character in the medium of the TV series, as portrayed by two actors during different time periods. It demonstrates the changing nature of the character in the programme's long history, such as his "harder edge" as portrayed by Pascoe. It facilitates critical commentary by providing an immediate relevance to the reader more capably than textual description alone.
