English: The barque Nest (1868) on Surabaya Dock of 3,500 tons. In May 1917 (https://resolver.kb.nl/resolve?urn=MMKB23:001662020:mpeg21:p00006) the Dry dock company Surabaya readied the old barque Nest to make a trip to the Netherlands. The trip temporarily ended in Durban after she got hit by a storm. In 1919 she arrived in the Netherlands. The whole affair was surrounded by (rumors off?) fraud and got much attention in the media.
Nederlands: De Bark Nest (1868) op het Soerabaja dok van 3.500 ton. In mei 1917 (https://resolver.kb.nl/resolve?urn=MMKB23:001662020:mpeg21:p00006) werd de Nest door Droogdok Maatschappij Soerabaja klaargemaakt om met een lading tabak naar Nederland te varen. Na een storm eindigde de reis in Durban. Pas in 1919 bereikte de Nest Nederland. De affaire kreeg veel aandacht in de media, vooral door (vermoedens van?) fraude. |
