Es un plato de la categoria de pilakis en la cuina turca, que es una subcategoria de los "zeytinyağlılar" (platos hechos con aceite de oliva y que se comen frios). También existe pilaki de judias blancas y otras legumbres y verduras, y de pescados como "uskumru" (caballa).
