Summary

Description
English: Pictured is the solar disk observed from the Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) in H-alpha on 24 July 2002. Across the disk there are a number of active regions highlighted by bright plage and possessing small active region filaments (labeled ARF). Around and between these active regions lie intermediate filaments (labeled IF), and far from them, mostly around the polar crown, are large quiescent filaments (labeled QF). Some filaments are also visible at the limb, or the edge of the solar disk from the observer's perspective, and are in this case called prominences.

More data about the solar disk at this time can be found here.

BBSO operation is supported by NJIT and US NSF AGS-1821294 grant. GST operation is partly supported by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, the Seoul National University, and the Key Laboratory of Solar Activities of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Operation, Maintenance and Upgrading Fund of CAS for Astronomical Telescopes and Facility Instruments.
