Dexter: Arms of James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran, Duke of Châtellerault (c. 1519 – 1575), Regent of Scotland during the minority of Queen Mary I (Hamilton quartering Arran); sinister: arms of his wife Lady Margaret Douglas, a daughter of James Douglas, 3rd Earl of Morton (Hamilton quartering Arran, impaling Douglas).
