Description
The Rotterdam was launched and delivered in 1878 by Harland & Wolff of Belfast as the British Empire (Yard no. 118) for the British Shipowners' Co Ltd of Liverpool. In 1886 she was taken over by the Nederlandsch-Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Mij of Rotterdam, and named Rotterdam. In 1895 the company changed her name to Edam.
