Description
English: The w:Commissioners' Plan of 1811 defined the grid system for Manhattan north of Houston Street. The portion extracted here shows the lettered avenues—A, B, C, and D—from Houston to Kips Bay (around 14th Street). This is roughly the area designated by Alphabet City today.
