| Description |
English: The steamship Allegany. Built in New York in 1863 as Neptune, the ship was requisitioned by the United States Navy while still under construction and completed as a gunboat, serving in the American Civil War as USS Neptune. After the war, the vessel was sold, and entered merchant service as the steamship Allegany. Allegany was wrecked in a fog off Long Island, New York, in 1865. |
