English: Carlyle House was built in Alexandria, Virginia in 1751-1753 by John Carlyle, a Scottish merchant. It is on Fairfax Street near King Street. Alexandria existed before Washington, D.C. was founded. It was a port city, as far up the Potomac River as you could navigate.
