Summary

Description
English: "A Curious Gate at Stepney", engraving by John Thomas ("Antiquity") Smith 1791. His MS caption (not reproduced here) suggests iit is the oldest building in Stepney and is known as King John's Gate. It is now known to have been Worcester House, a large medieval and Tudor moated mansion. It became a Baptist meeting house in the C19. It has recently been excavated for Crossrail.
