DescriptionA Burning for Conservation in Southeastern South Dakota (16792741737).jpg
As part of a conservation plan, this landowner used a prescribed controlled burn to manage his grassland in his grazing system.
When properly used, fire can be a good tool for grassland managers as they work toward changing the species of plants in their pastures for better forage production.
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provides free technical consultations for landowners or operators for conservation planning. Financial assistance may be available through Farm Bill conservation programs.
