The original black and white logo... appeared on the cover of "Elementary Cryptanalysis: A Study of Ciphers and Their Solution" by Helen Fouché Gaines. That book was published in 1939 and registered for copyright (A134084). However, it's copyright was not renewed and thus that particular black and white logo on the cover is now in the public domain. See Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#American_Cryptogram_Association_logo.
This logo image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.
It is recommended to name the SVG file “ACA logo old-1.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
Note that it may still be copyrighted in jurisdictions that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works (depending on the date of the author's death), such as Canada (70 years p.m.a.), Mainland China (50 years p.m.a., not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany (70 years p.m.a.), Mexico (100 years p.m.a.), Switzerland (70 years p.m.a.), and other countries with individual treaties.
