| Description | 80-G-40977: The Medal of Honor, awarded posthumously to Marine Sergeant Clyde Thomason was received by his stepmother, Mrs. Amy M. Thomason in the office of the Under Secretary of the Navy, James V. Forrestal, (left). Lieutenant General Thomas Holcomb, Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, (right), was among those present at the ceremony in the Navy Department. The award was made for “conspicuous heroism and intrepidity during the Marine Raider Expedition against the Japanese-held island of Makin. Photograph released January 20th, 1943. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2016/12/20). |
