Summary

Description

English: The construction work on the physical barrier at the Polish-Belarusian border, which also serves as the eastern border of the European Union, has been completed. The construction of the barrier was prompted by Lukashenko's aggressive policy, who, through illegal migration, sought to destabilize the situation in the region before Russia's attack on Ukraine. With the construction of the 186-kilometer barrier, Poland will enhance its strategic security and will be able to focus on aiding Ukraine in its fight.

The barrier stretches approximately 186 km along the Belarusian border. It measures 5.5 meters in height and is made of steel panels measuring 4.5 meters high, topped with a roll of special wire. The total budget allocated for the construction of the barrier was 1.6 billion PLN.

The barrier hinders illegal border crossings, provides reaction time for the Border Guard, and serves as protection for Polish authorities against aggressive actions by illegal migrants and Belarusian regime forces. Its full functionality will be achieved after equipping it with electronic systems (motion sensors, cameras).
