English: North Dakota State Bison men's basketball becomes the first program in over 30 years to qualify for the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament in its first year of eligibility, drawing a 14-seed and starting the tournament against defending national champion, the 3-seed Kansas Jayhawks. The Bison put on a valiant effort, keeping the game close into the 2nd half, but eventually lost 84-74. The game was played at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota, 2009 NCAA Tournament. The stadium normally hosts American football, baseball and occasionally soccer. Over 10,000 fans of the 15,000+ in attendence were Bison fans, as the Minneapolis area is home to many Bison alumni and is a 4 hour drive from Fargo, North Dakota.
