The last of the famous Canadian license plate manufacturers the MacDonald Manufacturing Company. these flat plates were made of a,thin steel sheeting crimped over onto a wire frame. The MacDonald plates were first issued in 1912 in Ontario, the last issue is this one, NB 1921.

I am not sure if the the (?) 1917 BC and the 1918 Nova Scotia are of the wire style MacDonald Manufacturing Company license plates. I know the B.C. 1917 was made with thin gauge steel over a top reinforcing wire only.
